Flyer arrested in Trichy with 977g smuggled gold
Trichy: A passenger, who arrived at the Trichy International Airport was arrested after he was found smuggling 977g gold worth 70.6 lakh.
Acting on intelligence, officials of the air intelligence unit (AIU) of customs department carried out a check on a male passenger who arrived in an Air India Express flight from Dubai on Friday night.
The check brought to light that the passenger smuggled gold and landed here to deliver it to the buyer.
AIU officials said that the passenger concealed the gold in his rectum.
The gold was packed in an oval shaped plastic like material. AIU team extracted the pack and found the gold in paste form.
The officials separated the gold alone by some process. The team seized the gold and arrested the passenger for further investigation. TNN
