Chain snatchings in city: 2 held
Vadodara: A day after four chain-snatching incidents in the city, the detection of crime branch (DCB) arrested two men on Thursday. Both the accused are related and had planned to snatch as many gold chains as possible before disappearing from the city.
The crime branch sleuths tracked down the duo through CCTV footage and tip-offs. “We had received information that the accused went towards Ranoli or Bajwa area.
Further investigations revealed that the duo owned a black motorcycle and they were planning to sell off the looted jewellery in Ranoli,” the police said. Based on the information, the cops kept a watch in the area and intercepted the duo.
The accused tried to escape but the cops nabbed them in the nick of time. The duo was identified as Kabirsingh Bhond, 21, a resident of Ranoli and Sunnysingh Taunk, 24, of Junagadh. The cops recovered all the looted gold chains from the accused who are historysheeters.
Further questioning of the duo revealed that they wrist watches on that the accused were wearing were stolen from Fatehgunj and Gotri. The police said that Bhond has 13 offences registered against him including that of burglary and chain-snatchings and Taunk has 10 offences registered against him in Junagadh, Rajkot and Surat. The accused had targeted four citizens in different areas of the city on Wednesday morning and snatched their gold chains within one hour.
A police official said that many policemen were busy in polls duty and the chain-snatchers got advantage of it.
