Vijayawada: In a blow to Congress in
Andhra Pradesh, the party’s Tenali candidate’s nomination was rejected by election officials on Friday.
Things took an unexpected turn in Tenali assembly segment in Guntur district, when the party changed its candidate Shaik Basheed, who had already received the B form and filed his nomination, on the last day for filing of nominations.
Dr Chandu Sambasivudu, a Tenali local, was named as the new candidate and he submitted his nomination papers in a hurry as time was running out. Despite his last-minute efforts, the nominations of both Basheed and Sambasivudu were rejected by election officials.
Jana Sena leader Nadendla Manohar is the NDA candidate from Tenali. Ruling YSRCP has named sitting MLA Annabathuni Sivakumar again.
Meanwhile, there was controversy over YSRCP leader Kodali Nani’s nomination from Gudivada assembly seat in Krishna district when TDP filed a complaint with the returning officer, alleging that Kodali’s nomination papers carried ‘false information’. The complaint stated that the municipal office was used as his camp office. TDP also attached documents stating that the building was rented out and demanded the rejection of his nomination. Kodali had stated in his affidavit that he did not use any government property for his office. However, his nomination was finally accepted.
