VIJAYAWADA: The high-decibel campaign for the AP assembly and the Lok Sabha elections came to an end on Saturday evening. Polling will be held for 175 assembly and 25 Lok Sabha seats on May 13.
BJP national president JP Nadda, AICC former president Rahul Gandhi, YSRCP chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu and Jana Sena president Pawan Kalyan addressed public meetings at different places before concluding their campaign.

While Nadda campaigned for Jana Sena candidate in Tirupati, Rahul Gandhi addressed a public meeting in Kadapa where APCC president YS Sharmila is party’s Lok Sabha candidate.
While the campaign in 169 constituencies closed at 6 pm on Saturday, the campaign in Maoist-effected agency constituencies - Salur, Palakonda and Kurupam - ended at 5 pm. The campaign in Araku, Ramchodavaram and Paderu constituencies closed at 4 pm.
Chief electoral officer (CEO) MK Meena said that dry day has been declared during the silence period and no shops will be opened for sale of liquor till the conclusion of the polling.

“We have also directed the district collectors to enforce section 144 of CrPC during the silence period regarding ban on unlawful assemblies and prohibition on holding of public meetings.
No loudspeaker shall be permitted during the 48-hours silence period. All political functionaries/party workers who have been brought from outside the constituency for campaign purpose and who are not the voters of the constituency shall leave the constituency immediately after campaign period is over,” said Meena.
He, however, said that the district collectors have been asked to handle the issue carefully in case of temple cities and tourists’ places. He said that the office bearers of the political parties who are in-charge of the state can stay in the state headquarters at a place which is declared as such and he cannot move out except to his party office.
YSRCP is contesting all the 175 assembly and 25 Lok Sabha constituencies. Telugu Desam Party (TDP) returned to NDA after six years.
