NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India announced the final schedule for the voting and results of the North Goa Lok Sabha constituency election on March 16. This year, the election for North Goa, one of the two Lok Sabha constituencies in the state of Goa, will take place.
The North Goa constituency comprises 20 Vidhan Sabha segments, including Mandrem, Pernem, Bicholim, Tivim, Mapusa, Siolim, Saligao, Calangute, Porvorim, Aldona, Panaji, Taleigao, Santa Cruz, St.
Andre, Cumbarjua, Maem, Sanquelim, Poriem, Valpoi, and Priol.
The Lok Sabha elections in North Goa are scheduled for May 7, during Phase 3 of the general elections.
The election schedule notification kick-starts the nomination filing process for candidates representing major political parties and Independents. While some parties unveiled their candidate lists before the polls announcement, others continued to declare candidates as the election progressed through phases.
Prominent candidates for the 2024 North Goa Lok Sabha constituency include Shripad Yesso Naik from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Ramakant Khalap from the Congress party.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shripad Yesso Naik of the BJP emerged victorious in the North Goa Lok Sabha constituency, securing 244,844 votes. Girish Raya Chodankar of the INC received 164,597 votes, resulting in a margin of 80,247 votes in favor of Shripad Yesso Naik.
In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, Shripad Yesso Naik of the BJP emerged as the winning candidate from the North Goa Lok Sabha constituency, securing 237,903 votes. Ravi Naik of the INC received 132,304 votes. The North Goa parliamentary constituency had a total of 515,441 registered electors in 2014.
