NEW DELHI: The Election Commission of India announced the final schedule for the voting and results of the South Goa Lok Sabha election on March 16, with the polls set to take place.
The South Goa Lok Sabha constituency is scheduled to go to polls on May 7 of this year, during Phase 3 of the elections.
The results for the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in the South Goa constituency are slated to be announced on June 4.
The notification of the election schedule kick-starts the nomination filing process for candidates fielded by major parties and Independents. Some political parties announce their candidate lists before the polls announcement, while others declare candidates as the elections progress across phases.
In 2024, the electorate is showing even more enthusiasm to demonstrate the power of their vote. Prominent candidates for the 2024 South Goa Lok Sabha Constituency include Pallavi Shrinivas Dempo from the Bharatiya Janata Party and Capt. Viriato Fernandez from the Indian National Congress.
In the Lok Sabha elections of 2019, Cosme Francisco Caitano Sardinha of the INC emerged victorious in the South Goa constituency, securing 201,561 votes. Adv Narendra Sawaikar of the BJP received 191,806 votes. Cosme Francisco Caitano Sardinha won with a significant margin of 9,755 votes.
In the 2014 South Goa Lok Sabha election, Adv. Narendra Keshav Sawaikar of the BJP secured victory by defeating INC candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco with a margin of 32,330 votes. Adv. Narendra Keshav Sawaikar received 198,776 votes, while Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco garnered 166,446 votes.
