Chaos erupted during the burial rites of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari after his supporters broke the barricading in order to enter the cemetery ground.

The final rites of gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari were held. Following the completion of the postmortem examination at Rani Durgavati Medical College in Banda district, Mr Ansari's body was brought to his hometown Ghazipur, covering a 400-kilometre route.

SP Gazipur says, "The last rites will be conducted as per rituals at 10am today. The body is kept at his home right now. Adequate police and paramilitary personnel are deployed."

Samajwadi Party MLA and nephew of Mukhtar Ansari, Mohammad Suhaib Ansari, says, "Preparations are being done for the last rites. everyone will get the chance to see him. I request all present here to maintain the decorum..."

In Yusufpur Mohammadabad, Ghazipur district, people awaited Mukhtar Ansari's remains with anxiety. Ghazipur heavily fortified, khaki patrolling. Ansari's family departed Banda. A grave dug near his parents' burial place, the township deserted, markets closed.

Union Minister Nityanand Rai says, "We all know the intention behind his tweet. If tweeting about someone means vote and appeasement, then it's not good. They don't do politics with sympathy but for vote and appeasement..."

"Since this news flashed last night, the entire district administration is on alert. We are in touch with the family and they have said that the last rites will be done after morning prayers... Crowd is expected as people will come to pay tribute and the arrangements are made for the same. But, I appeal to the people that the Model Code of Conduct is in effect for general elections and if it is violated by any means or statements made by anyone, action will be taken as per law."

"Those who protected such people to have political benefits can say whatever they want. Medical inquiry has been done, if they demand a judicial inquiry it will be done as well. Everyone has the right to know the truth but they should tell under which crime he was in jail for years? Who induced the fear, who exploited the public and who were they that protected him? SP, BSP and Congress should tell instead of doing politics on incidents like this."

Ghazipur district magistrate Aryka Akhauri and SP Omvir Singh informed TOI that, "Family (of Mukhtar) has completed all preparations for last rites. But, timing of burial will be decided after mortal remains departs from Banda for Ghazipur. It will take minimum 8 hours to reach here after leaving Banda."

Last rites of Mukhtar Ansari will take place at Kalibag graveyard in Yusufpur Mohammadabad of Ghazipur district, said Mukhtar's nephew and SP MLA from Mohammadabad Suhaib Ansari mentioning that timing of burial will be finalised once the mortal remains leave Banda for Ghazipur.

Ansari's remains will be brought to his native place for the last rites during the day. A large number of security personnel have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. Locals eagerly await the arrival of the five-time MLA's body. Family members have indicated that if the body arrives before 10 pm, the last rites will be conducted on Friday; otherwise, they will take place on Saturday morning.
