Goa chief minister Pramod Sawant said the opposition raises the three linear projects and the Mhadei issues just for the sake of it. “For Congress, the Mhadei is a political issue. For me it is not. When I was not even in politics, I fought for the Mhadei. Today I am in politics, and I continue to fight for the Mhadei. To save the Western Ghats, we need the Mhadei. There will be no diversion of the Mhadei.”
He also said the Tamnar project was essential to connect the north to south grid. “After the commissioning of the Tamnar project, electricity interruption will be reduced to bare minimum. We have started protesting in the name of the environment. Who has saved Mollem? Is it those who protest with placards? Have they saved Mollem? Mollem is saved by the people of Mollem. Those in Mollem have to live there. Those protesting don’t know the pain. It is easy for them to stand with a ‘Save Mollem’ placard and see the photo published in newspapers the next day,” he said.
