CLAIM
Video of three men mercilessly beating a middle-aged man with sticks and rods is being shared with the claim that Bajrang Dal workers thrashed a man near Sonipat in Haryana.
In the video, the victim can be heard crying and pleading with his attackers to spare him, who do not budge and converse with each other in Punjabi.

Twitter user Wg Cdr Anuma Acharya (Retd) posted the video with a text in Hindi that loosely translates to, “It is being said that this video is from Sonepat and the attackers are being told to be from Bajrang Dal.” Acharya tweeted the video tagging official handles of the Prime Minister’s office, Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar, etc among others.

TRUTH
The video is from Sunam, Punjab where bootleggers assaulted a 35-year-old man in Punjab’s Sunam suspecting him to be a police informer. The attackers have got nothing to do with Bajrang Dal, nor is the video from Haryana.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Under Acharya’s tweet, another tweet by an alert Twitter user ‘Befitting Facts’ stated that the video was from Sunam, Punjab.

Using Google Chrome’s InVID tool, we broke the video into several keyframes and then ran reverse-image search on them via different search engines.
The results led us to the same video posted by Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal on February 20, 2023.

Tagging the Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, he wrote, “Jungle Raj prevails in Punjab under @BhagwantMann 's misrule. Such brutal incidents have started taking place so frequently & with impunity. Still the CM claims law & order situation good in state! Praying for the well being of injured, I demand strict action against the culprits.(sic)”
Taking a cue from this and the tweet by ‘Befitting Facts’ above and using relevant keywords in Google search, we found a news post by Times of India dated February 20, 2023 reporting about this incident.

Titled ‘Man assaulted with sharp-edged weapons in Punjab's Sangrur; 6 booked, one arrested’, the report mentioned that the incident took place recently and the video of the incident had gone viral over social media.
As per the report, the police in Punjab's Sangrur arrested one of six accused booked for attempt to murder for assaulting a middle aged man in Sunam of Sangrur district with the sharp edged weapons in broad daylight.
