FAKE ALERT: Photo of Modi paying tributes to Veer Savarkar viral as him worshipping Nathuram Godse
CLAIM
A graphic card carrying screengrab of a Navbharat Times news report juxtaposed with Narendra Modi paying homage to a photo-frame of some unidentified man is being circulated with the claim that PM is worshipping Nathuram Godse, the assassin of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Navbharat Times report is about Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asking state governments to take action against those worshipping Godse.

The graphic card is being used to claim alleged double standards of BJP leaders, who on one hand worship Godse and on other occasions seek action against those who hail him.
TRUTH
The photo is over seven years old. Modi is paying homage to Indian freedom activist Veer Savarkar and not worshipping Godse.
VERIFICATION AND METHODOLOGY
Cropping the relevant portion of the graphic card and running a reverse-image search on it led us to an APN News
post dated February 26, 2017.
Titled ‘PM Modi pays tribute to freedom activist Veer Savarkar’, it carried the same image of Modi paying tributes. The report identified the man in the photo-frame as Indian freedom fighter Veer Savarkar.

Titled ‘Narendra Modi pays tribute to Veer Savarkar’, the video carried visuals from the same event where Modi pays homage to Savarkar. At 0:30 in the video, the frame seen is the same as the image of Modi in the graphic card above.
