Private sector lender ICICI Bank on Saturday announced that its consolidated net profit for the March 2024 quarter increased by 18.5% to Rs 11,672 crore. Maruti Suzuki on Friday reported its highest quarterly net profit as growing share of SUVs fueled its sales while ease in commodity prices helped margins. Disconcerted by the rising number of cases registered under Pocso Act as a fallout of romantic relationships with or between minors, Orissa HC Friday noted with concern that many of these were "false and vindictive litigations", reports Lalmohan Patnaik. "...It was never the legislation's (Pocso Act) intention to prosecute romantic relationships between young adults," Justice Sibo Sankar Mishra said, quashing criminal prosecution in five cases.
Congress suspended Friday its disqualified Surat LS candidate Nilesh Kumbhani for six years, accusing him of “negligence or collusion with BJP” even as he stayed “incommunicado” and released a video pledging allegiance to the party. Kumbhani’s nomination was rejected on April 22 after his three proposers claimed their signatures were not theirs.
